The Bidvest mobile classroom formed part of the Bidvest corporate social initiative to facilitate a national teacher training pilot project. Bidvest allocated funds to promote maths and science skills amongst teachers and equip them with the necessary time-saving tools to facilitate test and exam preparation.
Bidvest wanted to empower educators so that this knowledge could be transferred to learners and implemented in daily teaching routines.
Mobile Student Future (MSF) and Modlin Education combined forces in making this dream a reality. MSF provided a mobile classroom, consisting of 14 computer workstations, internet connectivity, facilitator station and a disability lift, to ensure a comfortable training environment with resources that are readily available. The schools where training took place have very little resources and do not have computer rooms where educators have access to resources.
Modlin Education provided state of the art education software which was integrated in the Bidvest mobile classroom, together with a trained facilitator. MSF furthermore made sure that operations ran smoothly by supplying a vehicle operator for the mobile classroom, overseeing IT as well as vehicle maintenance.
The pilot project took place at three schools across South Africa, namely Olivienhoutbosch (Johannesburg), Tshana (Kwazulu-Natal) and Groenvlei Secondary (Cape Town) in September 2016. The training focused on maths and science and provided teachers with time-saving tools in order to create assessments. The feedback was hugely successful and we are aiming to continue with this project in the near future.
“Excellent and enjoyed every minute. Make teaching and learning easy…(The mobile bus) is a piece of art in our education, learning environment is very good.”
